The UBC Department of Education and Training is the architect behind training UBC employees and members in skills to be successful on and off the jobsite. The DET aligns education, training, and development of members and employees with the mission of the Brotherhood. By focusing on developing Growth, Skill & Professionalism, and Organizational Effectiveness, the DET is creating the foundation for the UBC to achieve its goal of securing the future of working carpenters by achieving 70% or more market share.
3RD YEAR APPRENTICE PROGRAM: HELPING BUILD OUR INDUSTRIES
During the 3rd Year Apprentice program, seasoned apprentices gain a greater understanding of the Brotherhood and the construction industry, and of the role union members play in the success of both. Participants learn how professionalism, productivity, skill, and attitude contribute to their own success as well as that of their employers.

Program Criteria:
The following criteria must be met by 3rd Year Apprentices prior to registration:
• UBC Member in Good Standing;
• Must Be a 3rd Year apprentice at the time of training;
• Must not have previously attended the 3rd Year Apprentice Program;
• No more than one unexcused absence from related instruction classes;
• Must have attended at least two local union meetings in the past 12 months;
• Must be motivated and willing to attend the training.

UBC JOURNEYMEN: BUILDING LEADERSHIP FOR A STRONG FUTURE
Journeymen develop leadership, mentoring, coaching, and communication skills, and learn to engage with newer members and lead by example, all while promoting positive work environments and productivity on the job.

The UBC needs your help in achieving its goal of 70% market share in the coming years. We are actively changing our job sites to promote a constructive culture where employees value and motivate one another to achieve their highest potential.

As a result of attending this program you will deploy new and innovative leadership skills on the job which will promote a constructive culture by leveraging Transformational Leadership skills. You will develop a new toolkit that includes effective coaching, mentoring and communication skills. Your influence of others using these new tools will be at the heart of making this cultural transformation a reality.

COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP: BUILDING JOBSITE LEADERS
This program focuses on leadership, communication, entrepreneurship, coaching, and collaboration among the parties of a building project, such as the contractor, general contractor, project manager, facility manager and the owner.

Today’s leaders need an expanded repertoire of skills and a new mindset to succeed in the increasingly fast-paced, chaotic, and highly competitive industry. This calls for more collaborative-based leadership, and the creation of a partnership culture – one that can harness the knowledge and expertise of all stakeholders. This allows leaders to leverage everyone’s best, and better compete.
